Featured Customer: Beth Winterburn

Ever since seeing Beth’s artwork, we have been hypnotized! We hope you enjoy getting a little peek into her business and process.

Tell us a little about your company:

I’m an abstract painter, working mostly with inks and acrylics on paper and canvas. My work is characterized by bold, gestural brush strokes and minimalist detail. As a nod to my analytical roots in photography and architecture, I approach each piece with a mathematical mindset – counting evens and odds, balancing lights and darks, visually “slicing” the composition into thirds and fifths. I approach my work as if it’s a problem to solve: combining and contrasting elements with and against one another to create a cohesive yet dynamic piece. My work is an exploration of contrast, tension and resolve. Methodical by nature, I challenge my own ideas of control by experimenting with materials, allowing them to behave as they naturally would, with subtle direction. Each canvas, piece of paper or panel is an invitation to engage – to feel, to react, to explore the tension and resolve of each and every element and property used to build it.

What makes your product unique?

Each piece is a unique recording of a moment in time. No two pieces are exactly alike. Each conveys its own language, inviting the viewer to interpret the dialogue initiated in the studio.

How do you package your products and what ClearBags products do you use?

For my paper pieces, I insert a sturdy white backer board into a ClearBags Flap Seal Bag, and then slide the piece in before securing it with the seal.

What one piece of packaging advice would you give to other business owners?

It’s always nice to include a little info or handwritten note with each piece. Helping a customer know a little more about why you do what you do or what your business is about builds community.
