Brooklyn Brittle is a small batch bakery in Brooklyn, NY specializing in the harmonization of old and new. All products are entirely handcrafted using old family recipes and artisanal techniques, but with an eye on innovation. The dough, made with just a few humble ingredients, embodies a back-to-basics classicism. Infused with an exciting combination of rich foods – rosemary, espresso, fresh fruits, olives, toasted nuts, sage, parmesan, dark chocolate – it becomes Brooklyn Brittle. A uniquely crunchy snack for any occasion. Proving that old ways can be made new again!
What makes your product unique?
We bake with all natural ingredients, free of preservatives, chemical additives, food colorings, artificial flavorings, and artificial growth hormones. The shorter the ingredient list, the better. And consistent with our homespun values, we are family-friendly and community-cooperative. Cheese, olives, and other quality ingredients are sourced from family-run businesses. All organic herbs are sourced from local Brooklyn greenmarkets. Our mission is simple: use high-quality, fresh ingredients, and bake what we would proudly serve to family and friends.
Our brittle are unique in that each variety is designed to create a different memorable experience for consumers (e.g., refresh, laugh, wind down, dream, etc.) while eating our treats. For example, the “Lemon Pomegranate” variety is so light and fresh that consumers feel they’re transported to a backyard picnic or to the beach. Add an icy cold lemonade, or citrusy cocktail and some fresh fruit, and you’ve got an exceptionally refreshing dessert! Each variety is unique and exciting. We want to make sure we offer something for everyone, for every palette, for every experience.
How do you package your products and what ClearBags™ products do you use?
We currently use (and have always used) FG17 to showcase our products. The new narrow size allows us to create a tall, slender, sleek stack of brittle.
We sell through a number of privately owned retail stores and online (through partnered e-commerce websites and our own website).
How long have you been working with ClearBags™ and how does ClearBags™ help you succeed?
We have been working with ClearBags™ since inception in 2013. ClearBags™ helps us succeed by offering just the right product; that is, the FG17bag allows our consumers to “taste with their eyes.” The packaging is transparent and minimal, leaving as little material as possible between the brittle and the buyer. The bag is just enough to protect the brittle, and not quite enough to hide its enticing textures and flavor-rich ingredients. Our brittle truly takes center stage!
What one piece of packaging advice would you give to other business owners?
Consider simplicity and honesty with clear plastic bags. The product will appear more accessible to consumers, and it will be stripped of extra colors and designs, allowing the product to take center stage.
