How Free Samples Can Save You Money (And How to Get Them)

Last Updated on April 20, 2026 by Kira Andrus

Choosing the right packaging is a bigger decision than many businesses realize. The wrong size packaging can waste materials. The wrong material can compromise product protection. Wasted materials and products cost businesses money, and packaging that doesn’t align with your brand can weaken your customer’s first impression.

That’s why testing before committing is one of the smartest and most cost-effective steps you can take.

Free samples allow businesses to experiment with packaging options before placing larger orders. Instead of guessing what might work, you can physically test the size, material, and style with your actual product. The result? Fewer costly mistakes and packaging that truly supports your product and brand.

Why Free Packaging Samples Matter

When you’re ordering packaging in volume, even small differences can have a big financial impact. Free samples help you make confident decisions before investing in larger quantities.

1. Find the Right Size for Your Product

Packaging that’s too large wastes material and increases shipping costs. Packaging that’s too small can damage products or create packing inefficiencies.

With samples, you can test how your product fits inside different packaging sizes and styles. This helps you determine:

  • The most efficient dimensions
  • Whether extra space is needed for inserts or branding materials
  • If a different closure or opening style improves packing speed

Getting the right size from the start prevents costly repackaging or excess inventory later.

2. Test Materials for Protection and Presentation

Different materials perform differently depending on the product you’re packaging. For example, clear polypropylene bags highlight visual products, while thicker polyethylene bags offer more durability.

Samples allow you to evaluate:

  • Clarity and visual presentation
  • Durability and puncture resistance
  • Moisture protection
  • Overall feel and quality

Testing materials ensures your packaging protects the product while still delivering the presentation your brand needs.

3. Explore Shapes, Colors, and Styles

Sometimes the right packaging solution isn’t just about size. The right packaging solution can also be about structure and visual appeal.

Free samples allow you to try options such as:

  • Different shapes and configurations
  • Colored or tinted materials
  • Unique closures or openings
  • Specialty packaging styles

This can be especially helpful when planning limited edition packaging, seasonal promotions, or new product launches.

4. Experiment With Sustainable Packaging Options

Many businesses are exploring eco-friendly packaging, but choosing the right option can be complicated. Samples allow you to test materials and understand how they perform before making a switch.

Trying samples first helps businesses evaluate:

  • Compostable materials
  • Recyclable plastics
  • Reduced-material packaging options

Testing sustainability solutions helps you meet environmental goals without compromising product protection.
